Cooper
Terrier/Mixed Breed Dog aged 2 years 11 months

Details

Cooper came to CHS via another shelter. He is about 2 years old and is really a sweet kid, he does well with other dogs. Cooper will not do well in a home with cats as he likes to chase them a lot. Cooper will need to have an experienced dog owner and someone who is going to be willing to give him a job and keep with on his toes at all times. CHS is committed to finding the right matches for not only our pets but also our adopters. We have a unique approach to our adoption matching process. Our kennels are not open for the public to walk through, this helps us keep our dogs just a little happier. Due to our commitment being so strong for our pets, we ask that you either call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org before just showing up to meet our pets. We would like to take the time to get to know our adopters so that we can make the best matches possible between you and your new family member.

Jack
Jack Russell Terrier/Mixed Breed Dog aged 2 years 10 months

Details

Jack is right around 2 years old and weighs in right around 25 lbs. This guy is very sweet, however he is a little nervous when he is meeting new people. He was in a home previous with other dogs and with cats an he apparently did well with both. He is not recommended for a home with kids under the age of 12, as he needs little ones around him that can understand he does not enjoy people messing with his face. If you are interested in meeting Jack we ask that you either call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org Please do not just show up at the shelter as all our dog meet and greets are done by appointment after we have an approved application on file. We like to make sure that both our adopters and our dogs are a match. We will be very upfront and honest with you and if we feel that we don't have a match for you we will be sure to let you know or we may possibly suggest another dog.

Lady
American Staffordshire Terrier/Cocker Spaniel Dog aged 1 year 0 months

Details

Little Miss Lady is a very special girl that is making her transition to living the life of a dog with CHS. Lady arrived with CHS a few months ago from Puerto Rico. She has been a little reluctant to trust humans as she came off the streets and wasn't sure we could be trusted. Since her arrival at CHS, we have learned that she loves other dogs, is very sweet, however people really do scare her especially men. She is looking for a home with a very confident dog that is going to give her the courage to be brave and to do all the great things that dogs do. She loves her toys, she loves her dog friends, and is learning to trust people on a daily basis. She is currently about 8 months old, she is spayed, and current on her vaccines. Please note that CHS does not have kennels that are open for public walk through. If you are interested in meeting one of our pets please don't hesitate to either give us a call at 503-397-4353 or email us at animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org We are very committed to our pets and to our adopters we want to be sure that we make a lasting match that will last a life time for each of our pets. We have a very personalized approach to our adoption program.

Marley/Scarlet
Pit Bull Mix/Terrier Dog aged 3 years 4 months

Details

Hi my name is Marley and I am spayed female and am about 3 years old. I weigh right around 30lbs and I am a very athletic dog. Other dogs make me nervous, especially if I am on leash. I need to be in a home where I get to be an only child. I do also need to have a fenced yard, and preferably I would like to live in an area that isn't to busy. I haven't ever really been around kids and to be honest they make me a little nervous. I also am not going to do well in a home with cats. I really like to chase them and I'm not sure what I would do if I could get one, but they really do annoy me. CHS requires that all adopters prior to meeting a pet have an approved application on file. Once that application is approved, we will then schedule a time for you to come and meet with the pet that you are interested in meeting. Our kennels are not open for public walk through as we believe that it is to stressful on our pets. If you are interested in meeting any of our pets please don't hesitate to call 503-397-4353, please leave a message and we will return your call ASAP. Also please feel free to email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org if you have any other questions.

Penelope
Boxer/Pit Bull Mix Dog aged 1 year 5 months

Details

This kid is about 1 year old and weighs in right around 50lbs. She is a very active girl and a very smart kid. She is going to do best in a home where she is an only dog. She does ok with other dogs, but would like to be the center of attention. Penelope is not going to be that easy going kid that you won't have to put any work into. She will require an owner who is very educated on her breed, and is also educated about positive reinforcement training also. She is on her way to doing wonderful with her obedience training but is going to require a home that is willing to continue to work with her. We don't feel that Penelope is going to do well in a home with kids. She is going to need a home that is quiet that does not have a lot of stimulation. Please be advised that all dog adoptions are done through CHS, by appointment only. Once you have an approved application online, we will schedule a time for you to come and meet the pet that you are interested in. Our adoptions are not done on a first come first serve basis, we believe that our pets need to be appropriately matched with our adopters. We want our pets to be successful as well as our adopters to be successful. If there is a pet you are interested in please email us at animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org

Picassa
American Bulldog Dog aged 3 years 2 months

Details

This special little lady deserves to be loved to the moon and back. She came to the shelter via one of our shelter partners and so far in 2 years she has had a pretty tough life. She gets along with other dogs, however we would not recommend that she be placed with female dogs or little dogs. We would recommend her match be at least 45-50 lbs as she is a substantial girl and doesn't really recognize her size. It is unknown at this time how she is going to do with cats or kids. Her adopters are going to have to be understanding and come and visit her a few time prior to going home. At CHS the health and welfare of the animals that are in our care is our number one priority. We are dedicated to helping our adoptive families find that one perfect fit that will complete their family. We strongly encourage that you either please email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org or call 503-397-4353 so that we can talk to you about your needs and wants in a new family member prior to just arriving at the kennels.

Tucker
Bull Terrier/Mixed Breed Dog aged 3 years 3 months

Details

Tucker is a little over 2 years old and sadly hasn't had much exposure to life outside of a shelter. He was a transfer in from another facility. When he first arrived at CHS he wasn't much for being handled by humans. He was very scared and very shy, it has taken him several months to settle in and now he is doing great. He is a very tolerant dog and he does well in playgroup. We don't feel that he is going to do well with small kids, as he is very rough and tumble when he plays and he has no idea that he is about 75lbs. He thinks its fun to run into you while he is playing. Tucker is going to need a patient home with lots of understanding of positive reinforcement training in order to make him feel comfortable. An only dog situation for this kid would be preferred. If you feel that you might be able to provide Tucker with what he is looking for that would be great. Please don't hesitate to contact us. CHS is very committed to our adopters getting the best possible adoption experience that they can. Due to that we ask that prior to arrival at the shelter you please call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org to make appropriate arrangements. Most of our dog adoptions are done by appointment only, as we have very limited staff and we want to be able to give ample time to our adopters. They deserve that as well as our dogs deserve it.

Waylin
Chihuahua Dog aged 3 years 9 months

Details

Waylin came into our care through Columbia County Animal Control. This little guy has not had a really easy time of it. When we got him he was pretty sick and pretty skinny. We have since got him healthy, and feel that he is finally ready to go into a new home. This guys is going to need special food for the rest of his life, as he has a pretty sensitive tummy. He gets along great with other dogs, but we don't know how he is going to be with cats. We think he is probably going to do ok with children but might be a little shy in the beginning. As with every adoption, we ask that you please submit an application prior to just coming to our location to meet the pets. We don't have an open kennel, as we feel very strongly that the dogs need to be as comfortable as possible in their new homes. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets we ask that you please email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org and we will email you an application. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call 503-397-4353

Yukon
Husky/Shepherd Mix Dog aged 17 weeks

Details

Yukon is the newest addition to the shelter. He was an owner surrender to the shelter when he proved to be to much for the person who bought him. This kid is full of life and is very smart. Right now he is only 15 weeks old and currently weighs 25lbs. He is very smart and very trainable. He knows how to do all kinds of puppy things and is ready for the world ahead of him. Yukon is going to need a family that is experience with his breeds. He won't make a great dog for a first time dog owning family. He will need socialization with other animals, and with other people. Due to his size he isn't going to be a candidate to live in an apartment, or in a place that does not have an adequate sized yard for him. We anticipate when he is done growing he is going to be at least 75-80 lbs. His ideal family will understand the responsibility of raising a puppy and understand the work it is going to take to make him a great k9 citizen. This kid is very smart, he already knows how to sit and will come when called. Besides being physically busy, he is also going to need to be kept mentally busy to keep him out of trouble. He does well with other dogs so far, however we will be very cautious with what dog we will place him with, an ideal companion will be a female that is ready to take on a young puppy that can be very annoying. He was in a home with a kitten but did have a tendency to get rough with her, so a dog savvy cat will be what this kid needs. Yukon has not been around many kids, however with his size and his exuberance he should not be placed with kids under 5 at this time. CHS is very committed to finding the perfect match for all the kids that we have in our care. Our adoptions are not done on a first come first serve basis. We will accept multiple applications and do multiple meet and greets with families to make sure that we make the right match for Yukon and for our families. All family members will need to be present at meet and greets and any other dogs in the home will also have to be introduced prior to Yukon going home. In order to schedule a meet and greet we need to have a completed adoption application on file http://columbiahumane.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Adoption-Application-1.pdf Once the application is on file and approved we will then schedule a meet and greet with the family. Yukon's Adoption fee is $350.00
