#17-01 Belle
Mastiff/Mixed Breed Dog aged 1 year 5 months

Details

Belle is roughly 11 month old female spayed mastiff mix. She comes into the shelter weighing about 80lbs. This girl is goofy and fun loving and is eager to learn and to please. Bell is very smart and is ready to have a family that is going to teach her all about being a great dog. We would recommend that Bell not go to a home with kids that are under 8 years old, as she does not always realize that she weighs 80 lbs. She did not get a ton of experience in her previous home with other dogs, so she needs slow introductions with other dogs. She would benefit greatly from a confident male dog that could teach her about being part of a pack. Bells adoption fee is $250.00 The health and welfare of the animals of CHS is our first and foremost priority. We would ask that you please either call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org prior to coming to the shelter to meet a dog. Our kennels are not open for public walk through and most of our dogs are met by appointment only. We want to have a chance to get to know you and your family and be able to make a good placement.

Cooper
Terrier/Mixed Breed Dog aged 2 years 2 months

Details

Cooper came to CHS via another shelter. He is about 2 years old and is really a sweet kid, he does well with other dogs. Cooper will not do well in a home with cats as he likes to chase them a lot. Cooper will need to have an experienced dog owner and someone who is going to be willing to give him a job and keep with on his toes at all times. CHS is committed to finding the right matches for not only our pets but also our adopters. We have a unique approach to our adoption matching process. Our kennels are not open for the public to walk through, this helps us keep our dogs just a little happier. Due to our commitment being so strong for our pets, we ask that you either call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org before just showing up to meet our pets. We would like to take the time to get to know our adopters so that we can make the best matches possible between you and your new family member.

Duce/Stray 17222
Pit Bull Mix Dog aged 1 year 6 months

Details

Duce is Neutered Male Pit bull Mix. He weighs about 80 lbs. He is Brindle with some white. He is a playful smart and very sweet boy. He gets along with most dogs, same size would be best, of course a meet and greet with any other dogs would be required. He may be too much for a kitty though. He tries to stay clean in his kennel, and he would probably do best with someone who doesn't leave him alone too much. In the best interest of the pets in our care CHS does not have their kennels open to the public. CHS is committed to making sure that both our pets are successful and our adopters are successful. If you are interested in adopting a shelter pet, please don't hesitate to call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org We like to take a chance to get to know our adopters before we have you meet our pets. We feel that if we can talk to our adopters, we will be able to better assist them in finding that perfect family member.

Everly AKA Baby Girl
Pit Bull Mix Dog aged 10 months

Details

Everly came to the shelter as an owner surrender. This bundle of energy is about a year old and weighs in right around 62lbs. She is as sweet as the day is long, she loves to play ball and would love a family to call her own. She will not do well in a home with cats or other female dogs. If placed with another dog it will need to be someone that is going to match her play style and that she can meet at the shelter prior to going home. CHS is always working to be sure that we make the best matches possible between people and their new pets. Our program is designed to be sure that our dogs are very well taken care of, their physical and mental health is our first and foremost priority. For that reason our kennels are not open for public walk through. If you are interested in meeting one of our pets we ask that you either call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org to schedule an appointment to meet our kids. We might not have the right match for your family at this time but we will work with you to provide the best experience we possibly can for you and your family.

Goober
Labrador Retriever/Akita Dog aged 4 years 8 months

Details

Goober is roughly a 4 year old Lab/Akita mix. He came to the shelter via another shelter. He is roughly 56lbs. Goober does not have the greatest experience with other dogs, and his way of dealing with that is to avoid them at all cost. We feel that he would best be served in a home with no other dogs, or in a home with a more mellow dog that would be just up for hanging out. Goober loves to go for walks, has had some obedience training and loves to work for food. He know show to sit, stay, come, and lay down.

Picassa
American Bulldog Dog aged 2 years 5 months

Details

This special little lady deserves to be loved to the moon and back. She came to the shelter via one of our shelter partners and so far in 2 years she has had a pretty tough life. She gets along with other dogs, however we would not recommend that she be placed with female dogs or little dogs. We would recommend her match be at least 45-50 lbs as she is a substantial girl and doesn't really recognize her size. It is unknown at this time how she is going to do with cats or kids. At CHS the health and welfare of the animals that are in our care is our number one priority. We are dedicated to helping our adoptive families find that one perfect fit that will complete their family. We strongly encourage that you either please email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org or call 503-397-4353 so that we can talk to you about your needs and wants in a new family member prior to just arriving at the kennels.

Roxie/ Flipper
Canaan Dog Dog aged 2 years 2 months

Details

I am a new addition to CHS. This independent dog is self-reliant and doesn't need constant petting. Just think of an Australian Shepherd. Providing enough exercise and mental stimulation. Canaan Dogs MUST have regular opportunities to vent their energy and to use their busy minds to do interesting things. Otherwise they will become rambunctious and bored -- which they usually express by barking and destructive chewing. Bored Canaan Dogs can make a shambles of your house and yard. Fearfulness. Canaan Dogs began as "pariah dogs," i.e. feral or half-wild. Their defensive instincts often do not fit well into the average household. Canaan Dogs need extensive exposure to people and to unusual sights and sounds. Otherwise their natural caution is likely to become full-blown suspiciousness or fearfulness, which are difficult to live with and could even lead to defensive biting. Mind of their own. Canaan Dogs are versatile working dogs, capable of learning a great deal and excelling at the highest levels of competition, but they can also be stubborn and manipulative. You must show them, through absolute consistency, that you mean what you say. The Canaan Dog reacts to a stranger's intrusion into his territory DEFENSIVELY -- by retreating just out of reach and barking continuously. Because caution can easily shade into fearfulness, early and extensive socialization is required to build a confident, stable temperament. They are great family dogs!

Tiny
American Bulldog Dog aged 4 years 5 months

Details

Tiny is a new addition to the CHS family. He does ok with other dogs, but would prefer to hang around with mellow laid back females over male dogs. He is very big and very loving guy. He has had some training but all his basics will need to be confirmed once in the home. He is about 5-6 years old and weighs in a little over 90lbs. Tiny does have a special medical condition that is going to require life long ointment for his eyes. The treatment will cost about $40.00 a month for his new family. His tears do not produce enough tears and this medication helps him do that. CHS is committed to the highest level of care for all that pets that we house in the shelter. Out of respect for our dogs and them being in their home our kennels are not open for public walk through. If you are interested in meeting one of our kids we would be more than happy to talk to you about our adoption process by either calling 503-397-4353 or emailing animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org We want to be sure that we are making the best matches possible not only for you the adopter but also for our pets.

Truman
Beagle/Mixed Breed Dog aged 1 year 4 months

Details

PLEASE NOTE THAT TRUMAN IS NOT CURRENTLY IN THE SHELTER. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MEETING HIM PLEASE EITHER EMAIL OR CALL THE NUMBERS BELOW AND WE WILL GET YOU IN TOUCH WITH HIS FOSTER FAMILY! Truman came to the shelter from one of our shelter partners. He came from a hoarding situation where there was 45 other dogs in the home. His unique stature makes him very fun to interact with. He is fun to watch with other dogs. He would like to be the guy that is in charge, and he make sure that he is the guy that doesn't get bullied. Truman is very shy when he meets new people and does not warm up quickly at all. He is going to need a home with a lot of patience and someone that is willing to give him time. We don't feel he is going to do well with little kids and we are not sure how he is going to do with cats.
