Val is a 10 year old brown short hair tabby. He is a "man" of a cat, almost resembling a mountain lion. Though he may seem intimidating, he is really a big love bug! Val will often rub his head against you and purr, even put his paws around your neck and give you hugs. He loves attention, showing love and affection, and lots of playtime - so much so he may nip or swipe at you when you pull your hand away as if to say, "don't stop yet"... not the best method of communication but what's a cat to do? In his previous home, he spent the majority of his time as an outdoor kitty - so he can get restless staying inside too long. However, he was relinquished to Hart because he was getting injured from cat fights. We recommend Val have access to an enclosed patio / "catio", cat-proof backyard, or have his outside time supervised or limited. He should always be brought in at night if he is to be indoor/outdoor. Val has a tendency to dominate other cats, so indoor-only would be preferable. Val would do best as the only cat as he doesn't like to share your attention. If you are looking for a free spirit, one-of-a-kind, "I'm a hugger" kind of cat, then Val could be your new best friend!

Meet Ellie! This bright-eyed beauty is just 11-months old and full of zest and charm. Her big, beautiful eyes compliment her large bunny-esque ears. Ellie is as sweet as can be! She loves human companionship, attention, and access to a variety of toys. She is full of energy and will become restless if not provided proper engagement. Ellie will do best as an indoor-only cat for someone who works from home or is retired since she craves steady companionship. Another cat-friendly pet may also suit Ellie and provide a wonderful play-mate and outlet for her energy.

Carmela is a beautiful senior kitty. She is a long hair caramel colored tabby with marshmallow, chocolate chip, and graham cracker coloring all over (like a S'more). Carmela has special needs because she grew up feral as an outdoor kitty. Carmela enjoys being brushed and Churu cat treats! If you are interested in long term fostering, or adopting this beautiful girl, give us a call at H.A.R.T.

Patches is beautiful long-haired tortie. She is responsive, grateful, and greets humans with a meow. Her loud purr is extraordinary. She loves attention (very gentle petting only, please) and wants to bond with a new human. You will love her funny face! Meticulous with her litterbox, Patches is an easy keeper. At 23 years old, she is also a biological curiosity. Patches’ former owner had her as a kitten and kept her for 17 years, but then added a dog. Patches would not stay in the house with the dog, so she moved outdoors. In 2020, the owner left for the east coast, and Patches came to HART. Adjusting to shelter life at age 23 was very hard because she dislikes other cats. She stopped grooming herself and began to lose weight. She has been in an emergency foster's bathroom for two months and now she loves her Friskies and doesn't ask for much except a quiet home in her golden years. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Patches, contact HART for more information.

Calypso is an beautiful 12 year-old female with silky black long-hair and bright golden eyes. She is sweet, playful, and feisty. She is the daughter of another Hart cat, Gypsy, and they are often mistaken for sisters as they look nearly identical. Calypso prefers being an indoor-only kitty where she can be safe and keep her soft, shiny fur as immaculate as possible. She is very laid-back and quiet and she'll be a great companion to chill on the sofa with or on your bed to read. She just loves being by your side! Calypso was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism shortly after arriving at HART, which is easily managed with a transdermal medication simply applied 2 times a day to her inner ear. Calypso would love to finally have a stable home and a special someone to bond with and share a lifetime of love and memories.

Madonna came to HART as a stray circling Madonna Inn. She is an enigma. Somehow, as a stark white cat who seems to glow in the dark, she survived outdoors until brought to the shelter, where her distrust of strangers has subsided. With her all-white fur, she is highly susceptible to skin cancer and arrived at HART with a case on her ears, which we treated immediately. Madonna must be kept indoors-only to prevent any further occurrences. While Madonna is still learning to trust humans, she loves licking Churu treats from fingertips and seems as fascinated now by humans as we are by her. Giving the right setting – a quiet and calm household with lots of patience and TLC Madonna will, in time, blossom and thrive.

Melanee is a beautiful and petite 8-month-old tabby with captivating green eyes and Abyssinian markings. She is one of the last remaining of her litter, along with her brother Oliver. They were born to a feral colony in Atascadero and trapped and brought into HART for adoption. Along with her brother, Melanee was socialized later than is ideal for most kittens, so she is still very timid and untrusting of humans. We are looking for a special foster or adopter for Melanee; someone who is willing to be extremely patient, kind, and loving to her so she can build her trust.

Mr. Kitters was rescued when his foster couldn't care for him anymore. His skin was ruined by severe allergies, and he was in dire condition. Mr. Kitters has been a real trooper throughout his life-saving treatment, which was supported by HART's Guardian Angel fund and the attentive care of HART's staff and volunteers. He is now fully healed, even if he looks a little plain. Don't let that fool you! His handsome face and upbeat personality make up for it in spades. He wants to help with everything (even the laundry) and enjoys attention and monitoring all activities. To stay healthy, he must stay on his prescription diet, but fortunately he is always glad to devour his special food. Mr. Kitters is ready for a permanent and loving home. Please consider taking this perky and courageous 9-year-old tabby into your life. Mr. Kitters will be a great friend who participates in everything you do.

Meet Oliver! Oliver is a handsome 8-month-old tabby with Abyssinian markings. Born to a feral colony in Atascadero, this shy boy needs a very special person to take him home… Oliver is very timid and cautious around humans, especially when they make loud noises or fast movements. He will require considerable patience and an abundance of love and kindness to build his trust. But that will only make this sweet boy’s affection all the more special. Oliver loves being around other cats and finds comfort in their presence and snuggles. He is very playful, easily mesmerized by a wand toy or laser light and loves his Churu treats! Oliver will make a one-of-a-kind companion, he just needs a one-of-a-kind person to give him a chance.

To learn more about Ziggy, here's what her foster had to say about her..."Ziggy was an extra spicy purrito when I met her. Secretly she was so frightened of people she tried to keep us away in the only way she could figure out - to scare us by growling, 'I'm SO fierce, fear me, I am kitten.' Tough, I said, I'm going to love you anyway. And I did. And she melted into her true self: a buttery sweet purr-ball. She purrs, she plays, she explores, she loves laps and petting, especially brushing, and she loves chasing the red dot. Once in awhile she forgets her self and hisses, once in a while she hides. She's growing into her beauty, and she makes me laugh".

This sassy lady is named Sarah - she came to HART in September weighing in at 16.5 lbs and has worked hard to get down to a healthy 12 lbs. - way to go, girl! Sarah wants to reward all her hard work by getting an amazing forever home this 2021, the sooner the better. She definitely deserves it after-all. Sarah has been described as a "queen" and she wears that title with pride. She wants a home where she can be your #1 cat, preferably with her own thrown. She is a beautiful feline with striking green eyes and a fierce meow. She never fails to make her presence known and can always bring a smile to your face. Sarah is 14 years old, but don't call her a senior, her youth and beauty isn't fading anytime soon. And while she limps a bit from arthritis in her hind legs, her big personality and lively spirit will keep her forever young.

Scrappy is a 1 year old male fawn tabby. He was rescued and brought to HART infested with mites. Given how severe and contagious his skin condition initially was, his rescuers were told to euthanize him, but they brought him to HART to give him a chance. And with the help of Cambria Vet Clinic, who immediately started treatment, we began to see incredible improvement. Now Scrappy is fully recovered and happier than ever! He is a gentle and sweet little boy who loves scratches behind his ear and Churu treats, but still carries some of his feral instincts from his time on the streets. So Scrappy will do best in a home with no small children and will need lots of patience and TLC to really feel at home.

Viney came to HART with 4 little babies of her own. This young mama took excellent care of them and they have all found their own forever homes... and now it's Viney's turn! Viney is just shy of 2 years old and came to us as a frightened stray from Paso Robles. With some much needed care and socialization in foster care, Viney has come a long way. She's not quite a lap cat yet, but she no longer hides from people. She will need patience and time to build trust with someone, but she is worth it! Viney is a playful and happy kitty with a gentle nature. She will thrive in a quiet household where she can adapt on her own timeframe and. As her foster cat attest, the best way to get her to come to you for petting is by sitting down.
